FAQ

A Green Card, officially known as a Permanent Resident Card, is an immigration document that allows a foreign national to live and work permanently in the United States.
The Diversity Visa Lottery Program, also known as the DV Lottery or Green Card Lottery, is a program administered by the United States government through the Department of State. Its primary aim is to diversify the immigrant population in the United States by offering visas to individuals from countries with historically low rates of immigration to the U.S.

The applicant must be a native of a country whose natives qualify and must meet either the education or training requirement of the program. Use  the free eligibility test to check if you qualify.

If you are eligible, The first step include verifying eligibility, completing the application form accurately, submitting the application on behalf of the applicant, and providing updates on the status of the application.

The winners of the Diversity Visa Lottery (DV Lottery) are chosen through a random computer-generated drawing conducted by the U.S. Department of State. BUT If you didn’t fill out the visa forms correctly after being selected as a Diversity Visa (DV) Lottery winner, it could potentially lead to delays or even denial of your visa application.

The most important thing you can do is to submit your DV-Lottery application and photos correctly during the annual registration period usually held in October so you will participate (You cannot be selected if you do not participate!). One way that you can increase (double) your family’s chances of being chosen as a DV Lottery winner is if your spouse is also eligible to participate and files a separate DV-Lottery application which includes information and photos for you and your dependent children (if relevant). This would give your family two chances to be chosen as DV-Lottery winners.

When filling out the application for the Diversity Visa (DV) Lottery, also known as the Green Card Lottery, you will need to provide various types of information. Here are the key details typically required for the DV Lottery application:

1. Personal Information:
– Full name (as it appears on your passport)
– Gender
– Date of birth
– City/town of birth
– Country of birth
– Country of eligibility (typically your country of birth, unless you qualify through your spouse’s country or other eligible means)
– Photograph(s) meeting the specified requirements

2. Marital Status:
– Marital status (single, married, divorced, widowed)
– Spouse’s information (if married), including full name, date of birth, gender, city/town of birth, and country of birth

3. Children:
– Number of children (whether they are unmarried and under 21 years old or not)
– Information about each child, including full name, date of birth, gender, city/town of birth, and country of birth

4. Mailing Address:
– Address where you can receive mail

5. Education:
– Highest level of education completed (primary school, high school, university degree, etc.)
– Name of institution
– Field of study (if applicable)

6. Work Experience:
– Your occupation(s) for the last 10 years, including job title, duties performed, and dates of employment

7. Passport Information:
– Passport number

9. Additional Documentation:
– You may also need to provide scanned copies of certain documents, such as your passport biodata page, education certificates, and/or work experience documents. These are required if you are selected as a winner and proceed to the visa application stage.

It’s important to fill out all sections accurately and completely. Any errors or omissions could lead to disqualification or delays in processing your application. Make sure to review the official instructions provided by the U.S. Department of State each year for specific requirements and guidance on completing the DV Lottery application.
